One way of ascertaining children and youth concerns is to give children a voice for describing their lives, their concerns, and their perspectives on a variety of issues.  Through carefully prepared and administered polls in eight southern and eastern African countries, UNICEF’S Eastern and Southern African Regional Office (ESARO) and

the African Child Policy Forum have collected opinions from children and youth on their daily lives and conditions, as well as the broader issues affecting their society The results of these extensive surveys have revealed new insights and confirmed previous findings. The children of each of these countries have spoken freely and clearly of their general wellbeing and emotions, their relationships with family, friends, and community, as well as sharing their perspectives on a number of issues affecting their lives
