VACANCY |  Director of Programmes


The African Child Policy Forum (ACPF) is a leading, independent Pan-African centre of policy research and dialogue on the African child. It aims to provide a platform for dialogue; contribute to improved knowledge of the problems facing children in Africa; identify policy options; and strengthen the capacity of governments and CSOs to develop and implement effective pro-child policies and programmes.


ACPF is recruiting a Director of Programmes who would be responsible for overall programmatic direction, advocacy strategy and managerial oversight of its technical programmes.  As part of the senior management team, she/he would play a key role in the intellectual leadership and direction of ACPF.  Other key functions will include resource mobilisation and representational roles.


This is a high profile position, based at the ACPF headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which involves interaction with leading African, international and civil society executives, thinkers and experts in the child rights area.


The successful candidate should have at least 10 years’ experience in international development work, preferably in Africa, and extensive knowledge of children’s, women’s and human rights issues.  She/he should have a solid record of managerial and intellectual leadership.  She/he should have advanced university degree in Law, Social Sciences, Economics, Social Policy, Human Rights or other relevant fields.  The candidate needs to have strong interpersonal, communication and representational skills. English is a must; knowledge of French is desirable.
