The concept of child participation is enshrined in international, regional and national legal and policy instruments. The right (and the need) for child and youth participation amongst child rights actors is widely recognised, yet the practice of hearing children’s voices in participation initiatives remains limited in reality. furthermore, the approaches undertaken to facilitate child participation are diverse, are often ad hoc and not systematic, and differ from one country to another. These initiatives are often not institutionalised and may be led by a range of different actors including Civil Society organisations (CSos), Community Based organisations (CBos), government departments and allied agencies, and child-led initiatives themselves.
