Our programmes

African Child Observatory

The African Child Observatory is key to promoting state accountability and monitoring government performance. We regularly assess and monitor their progress towards realising the rights and wellbeing of children.

We collect, analyse and disseminate Africa-wide data on various aspects of children’s rights. We assess the current state of children’s rights across Africa and we measure and monitor comparative government performance.

We focus on:

  • Monitoring and reporting.
  • Promoting child-sensitive policies and practices.
  • Advocating for national child observatories.
  • Building capacity among child rights practitioners.
  • Convening international, regional and national forums for dialogue and exchange of knowledge.
  • Strengthening online data collection and statistical services.

Child Development & Protection

Our Child Development and Protection programme advocates for and strengthens national child protection systems so that all children – particularly the most vulnerable and victims of crimes and extreme forms of violence – are protected from violence and exploitation.

We focus on:

  • Collecting evidence and promoting the protection of children from all forms of violence.
  • Building national violence prevention and response strategies.
  • Advocating for better policies, systems, structures and cross-country collaboration.
  • Promoting evidence-based policy and practice in key child development issues.
  • Promoting the development and protection of the most vulnerable marginalised groups of children.

Children & the Law

ACPF believes that legal environments that promote and protect children’s rights must exist in all African countries. All too often, African children find themselves caught up in an unfair, inconsistent and discriminatory justice system.

ACPF’s Children and the Law programme aims to encourage and assist African governments and treaty monitoring bodies to undertake actions to address critical gaps in the legal protection of children.

We focus on:

  • Child law reform.
  • Child justice.

African Partnership to End VAC

The African Partnership to End Violence against Children (APEVAC) is a Pan-African platform established to promote an Africa-wide movement and conversation; and to contribute to global, continental, regional and national agenda on ending violence against children. It was also born of the need for a continental collective platform for innovation and cross-learning.

With a focus on a multi-faceted engagement, experience sharing and cross-learning, APEVAC brings together different actors to inform eradication of violence against children. We aim to promote an Africa-wide movement and conversation; and to contribute to global, continental, regional and national agenda on ending violence against children
